Windows 95 Notepad Cross Stitch Pattern

It’s been a while since my last post and while I haven’t written much I’m still here. I recently got a new job and so have been dedicating a lot of time and mental focus to that so haven’t been as focused on research and development after hours, but I have a few drafts that I’m working on so keep your eyes peeled for those.

If you follow me on the bird platform you’ll know I’ve been spending a lot of my downtime working on needlepoint and have slowly been working my way through Windows 95 icons:

Part of this process is generally making myself a small pattern to work off, so I thought I would start sharing some of them for people who wanted to make their own at home.

So here is the first on many - a pattern for the Windows 95 Notepad icon - this PDF includes the DMC colours and various patterns you can use depending on if you want to print the design or view it on a screen. I typically stitch on 14 count Aida, with four strands, but you can also opt for 2. I haven’t put the stitch count or the number of skenes, but typically I’ll go through about a 1/4 of one at most, but this will depend on your stitch style:

This is my version of this pattern, using 14 count Aida and four strands in what I think is a 3 inch hoop for reference:

I make these patterns by hand in Excel because many of the converters have a bit of a hard time with the original images. If you have feedback feel free to create an Issue on GitHub.
